A Solid-Phase Microextraction—Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry Method for Analyzing Serum Lipids in Psoriatic Disease

Approximately 25% of psoriasis patients have an inflammatory arthritis termed psoriatic (PsA). There is strong interest in identifying and validating biomarkers that can accurately reliably predict conversion from to PsA using novel technologies such as metabolomics. Lipids, particular, are key disease. We sought develop a liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) method be used conjunction with solid-phase microextraction (SPME) for analyzing fatty acids similar molecules. A total 25 chromatographic methods based on published lipid studies were tested two LC columns. As proof concept, serum samples disease (n = 27 n 26 PsA) processed SPME run the selected LC-MS method. The was best acid-like molecules optimized applied samples. 18 tentatively annotated features classified other compounds statistically significant between groups both multivariate univariate approaches. SPME-LC-MS developed capable detecting lipids may aid differentiating patients.
